Brilliant, motivated network marketers already figured it out. And they abandoned it.
Let us analyse critically what this concept is all about.
Word of mouth advertising is...
"An unpaid form of promotion where by customers refer others to a product or service because they are satisfied with it."
A very effective form of advertising indeed. Why? Because these customers are not
receiving an incentive for their referrals. People believe what they say.
Not clear yet? Ok..
This method is effective when the referrer is not biased.
Say you go to the restaurant, the food is mouth watering... customer care is excellent and you are impressed.
You will tell your friends and family about it. Bottom line is , you don't care whether they go or not. They will believe you and trust me they will go.
In Network marketing, what we are doing is NOT word of mouth advertising. We are very biased my friend! We want them to sign up, in fact we want it badly. That is what your prospects see...
Does that make sense? This is your answer to the most important question.. 'why am I not closing the sale?'
One of the MOST unknown reasons why people will not sign up with you.. they think you are trying to hook them up! No matter how genuine you think you are.
Worst of all, you are in denial..
I remember one hot presentation I made. My prospect asked me, "So you want me to sign up and you get a commission?
Phew.. What a tough question? To be honest, I lost that one.....
So, if is not word of mouth advertising? What is it about?
Good question!
It is about sales... Yes you heard right.
You see, many network marketing companies ignore this fact. Why? Because they know people despise selling. They disguise it as word of mouth advertising or sharing products.
Huge mistake!
We should be proud we sell. My favourite author Zig Ziglar endorses it "Everybody...sells and everything includes selling".
Anyone who has to persuade another to say YES... be it pastor, teacher, wife or husband has to sell. There is nothing wrong with that! Companies should accept the fact..and provide appropriate training to their distributors.
These days I laugh at myself. I remember when I used to tell my prospects "...you don't have to do sales". What a lie! I believe most of them were laughing at my ignorance....
Word of mouth alone will not build for you a profitable network marketing business . Especially in this era.
Fellow business builders, let us accept the fact and sharpen our skills. Network marketing is a wonderful opportunity. It beats many homebased businesses. People will buy it provided you know how and who to present it to.
Word of
mouth advertising could have worked for our grandparents. I am afraid it is sabotaging your success.
In fact it has also evolved! It takes the form of viral and buzz marketing. These are concepts which every network marketer must be familiar with.
