With mlm, you tend to leverage your time by teaching other people so that they duplicate your efforts. If done right, one can have a strong base of residual income within 3-5 years.
In traditional businesses, individuals are paid for the sales they continuously make. In mlm, individuals are paid to make a few sales and teaching others to do the same.
What is network marketing?
Network Marketing is simply a Science of delivering goods and services to potential consumers using 'word of mouth' advertising. These consumers are usually the distributors, also known as Independent representatives.
Throughout history, word of mouth has proved to be the most effective and cheapest form of advertising. This is what we always do when recommending goods and services that we like. In traditional businesses, we are not compensated when we make such recommendations.
In network marketing, there are systems in place to track those who buy as a result of your recommendation. You will therefore be credited for it depending on the compensation plan of that particular company.
The money the company saves in advertising and eliminating middle men is shared with distributors in form of commissions.
What is mlm then? Is it network marketing?
Multi-level Marketing (MLM)is a form of network marketing. In mlm people are credited for the sale up to many levels which may not always be the case with network marketing. Network marketing simply means referral marketing or word of mouth regardless of the levels.
It is worth noting that network marketing and mlm are often used interchangeably.
In summary, mlm or network marketing requires an individual to show a few people how the company works, the opportunity and the products. Individuals who love the concept will then join the team either buying products or any other qualification depending on the company in question.
People who join are now known as downlines and the person who introduced/recruited them is their upline. The upline trains his downlines to duplicate his effort and the cycle continues.
These downlines form his Organisation and he will always be credited for the sales they make.

Poor recruiting tactics:
Some distributors portray MLM as a get rich quick scheme. They don't explain the concept very well. They make so many promises. When people don't get what they were promised, they turn against the industry as a whole.

Network marketing concept.
Most people are lazy. They don't take time to understand the mlm marketing strategy. Since it uses the pyramid structure model, they conclude that it is a pyramid scheme.

Ruined relationships:
For a certain percentage, it has brought a strain on their personal friendships and family ties. This is especially true for those who lack marketing and sales skills. Most people join because their friends and family convince them to join against their own will.

The truth is, there are several network marketing pyramid schemes out there. Some people have fallen victims. They have invested money only to realise that they have been scammed. To such a group, network marketing will always be a bad model.

The fact is, there are many myths surrounding mlm. Myths like, network marketing is a scam, MlM is a get rich quick scheme, people at the top make all the money, network marketing doesn't work, you have to get in early to make money... and the list goes on.
