The word legitimate in lay terms simply means....
"Something in accordance with established rules, principles, or standards and is acceptable according to the law".
According to this definition, network marketing is definitely a legitimate business model in MOST countries. People from all walks of life and professions are part of this venture.
Unfortunately, some people find it difficult to accept that mlm is a legitimate work from home opportunity. Sometimes you don't blame them...
I will point out the two MAJOR reasons why most people think that network marketing is illegal.
- Lack of proper marketing skills:
This is what one client of mine had to say when we first met...
"You see, network marketing is a kind of a business scheme where they suck you in and then try to get you to rope all your friends and relatives in to build a business based on your contacts and goodwill".
The truth is, if done in a proper way through educational marketing, most people agree that mlm is indeed a legitimate work from home opportunity which is worth giving a try. You just have to be the right person for this industry.
Some people find it extremely difficult to understand this business model. They associate it with pyramid schemes. They imagine that one cannot make such huge sums of residual income when they are not working.
Others have seen colleagues who have joined and yet have never made a single dime. This is of course due to various reasons.
The fact is, we cannot deny that there are many network marketing scams, just like there are fraudulent schemes in every sector.
Here is what you need to do...
Before getting involved with any company, you must do research. Hang out in reputable forums and ask. Seek an honest sponsor who will give you the facts you need.
Find a product that you believe delivers. Most network marketing scams have inferior or no products at all. They tend to lead with the opportunity.
Take an extra step to find out if your company is a member of DSA i.e. Direct Selling Association. This is not conclusive but it is a good place to start.
